Small Business Owners – Jane-Michael Stallings
By Mildret Orellana
Reporting Texas
Jane-Michael Stallings of Austin started making masks as a way to follow CDC recommendations while avoiding mask alternatives such as bandanas or scarves. Stallings went on to sew masks for friends and family and later found the opportunity to be part of the Austin Mask Exchange, a collection of makers providing masks for those in need. Outside of her day job, Stallings sells her handmade jewelry and has found the process of making masks as an extension of her creative side. While unsure about the future of COVID-19, she is happy to be a part of a community helping other Austin residents.
“I definitely didn’t want to start doing this to make money.”
