Community Heroes – Asha Ramachandran, 18

Asha Ramachandran of Massachusetts is a freshman journalism student at New York University. In April, she sent a tweet out saying she will donate to any sexual assault victim who comments their Venmo, PayPal, CashApp, etc. She is a victim of sexual assault, and she decided to donate $2,200 of her own money to people who reached out to her.

“I wanted to create something where people felt like they could reach out to someone who understood, because it’s more than just money, too. Survivors will always have to struggle just to continue surviving and keep coping with their trauma. When circumstances become really dire, like right now, that makes it all the more difficult.”
