Just when you thought the Longhorns were rolling, a trip to Missouri brought them back down. In their final matchup before the Tigers take off to the SEC next year, Missouri beat No. 21 Texas 17-5. After gaining than more 400 yards on the ground against Texas Tech and then Kansas, the Longhorns were held to 76 yards on 29 carries. Texas, now 6-3 overall and 3-3 in Big 12 play, hosts Kansas State on Saturday.
No. 19 TCU ruined Boise State’s dream of playing in a BCS bowl by defeating the Broncos 36-35 on Saturday. Just like last season, a missed field goal ruined Boise State’s perfect season. TCU, 8-2 overall, is alone in first place of the Mountain West Conference at 5-0 in the Frogs’ last season before joining Texas in the Big 12. TCU hosts Colorado State next Saturday.
Texas A&M’s final season in the Big 12 continues its downward spiral after Saturday’s 53-50 four overtime loss to No. 14 Kansas State, the Aggies’ third straight defeat. A&M fell to 5-5 on the season and 3-4 in the Big 12.
With Texas and Texas A&M having mediocre seasons, Mac Engel of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram debates which is the best team in the state. The University of Houston, now 10-0 after thrashing Tulane 73-17 on Thursday, is certainly making its case for the best in Texas. The Cougars landed at No. 11 in the latest BCS standing and still have hopes of landing a BCS bowl.
The Dallas Cowboys won their second straight by crushing the Buffalo Bills 44-7 on Sunday. A now healthy Tony Romo threw three touchdown passes in the first half and finished with 270 yards and a franchise-best completion percentage after connecting on 23 of 26 passes. The Cowboys, 5-4 and a game behind the New York Giants in the NFC East, travel to Washington next Sunday.
The Houston Texans won their fourth consecutive game, crushing Tampa Bay 37-9. The Texans (7-3) are beginning to make a case that they’re one of the AFC’s best teams. The Texans have a bye next week before taking on the Jaguars in Jacksonville
